A significant amount of funding is still available to local companies to apply for grants, following the Mayor's original £3.8million commitment to creating apprenticeships.
The initiative in particular supports SMEs who create apprenticeships in sectors facing high demand from employers including:
- Advanced Manufacturing
- Process, Chemicals and Energy
- Logistics
- Health and Biologics
- Digital and Creative
- Business and Professional Services
- Construction
- Health Care
- Culture & Leisure
The initiative will also offer support to smaller companies taking on apprentices aged 19+, often for the first time. There will also be a drive to establish high quality, higher and degree level apprenticeships in the priority sectors.
What funding is on offer?
Grant A: up to £4000 per apprentice is available for small to medium businesses (under 250 employees) from the priority sectors above who employ an apprentice aged 19+ working towards an approved qualification from the Apprenticeship Standards or Frameworks.
Grant B: up to £1000 per apprentice is available for small businesses (under 50 employees) not in a priority sector who employ an apprentice aged 19+ working towards an approved qualification from the Apprenticeship Standards or Frameworks.
