Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen has welcomed the announcement by Amazon that they have opened a brand new fulfilment centre in Darlington and that recruitment for 1,000 professional jobs is already open.
Mayor Houchen said: “Amazon coming to Darlington has been the region’s worst kept secret for some time, but that shouldn’t hide what a hugely significant moment this is – that the biggest online retailer in the world has chosen the Tees Valley for its latest investment and recruitment has started.
"Jobs are already open for application in HR, IT, finance, operations and engineering – just the sort of high-quality professional roles we want to see for the talented people in our area. I would encourage everyone to get applying for these exciting new roles now!
“The new fulfilment centre is massive for Darlington and the wider region, not just because of the initial 1,000 permanent jobs the company is creating, but also the plans for all the development on the surrounding land which is just as exciting and bound to create even more jobs.
“My number one priority is always attracting the businesses and investment to the Tees Valley that will create the good quality well-paid jobs we all want to see come to our region and they don’t come much bigger than Amazon.
“We’ve worked incredibly hard with Heather Scott and everyone at Darlington Borough Council, and I am excited that this day has finally come and I look forward to the site being fully operational in the new year. It is another huge vote of confidence in our region.”
