Businesses have been urged to sign up to the 7th annual Tees Valley Skills And STEM Event following Mayor Ben Houchen’s launch of a £3million careers initiative.
The event will take place at the Olympia Building at Teesside University on Thursday, July 5th, but there is still time for employers to sign up to make the day bigger and more impressive than ever.
Hosted by Tees Valley Combined Authority, in partnership with North Yorkshire Business and Education Partnership (NYBEP), Teesside University, Tees Valley Learning Provider Network and Sirius Minerals, it is one of the largest events of its kind in the area.
Universities, colleges, learning providers and employers will be engaging with young people aged 14 to 18 using exhibits and hands-on activities to inform them about the world of work.
Last year, more than 75 different employers and learning providers reached out to 2,000 of the area’s young people about paths to work and this year is set to be even bigger.
The call comes after the announcement of the TeesValleyCareers.com initiative, the first of its kind in the UK, which aims to engage the region’s 100,000 young people with more than 1,000 businesses in the area.
This will help shape and deliver careers and enterprise, with each child receiving seven direct and meaningful employer engagements, informing them of job opportunities and careers information in the region.
Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen said: “This event is invaluable for both students and businesses alike to highlight routes to employment, training, apprenticeships and vacancies while showcasing our fantastic local businesses.
“I would ask all employers, big and small, to get involved, help inspire our young people to greatness and show them Tees Valley is a great place to work and live.
“But I want them to go one step further and engage with TeesValleyCareers.com to help mould our region’s future workers and equip them with the skills they need to succeed and for our businesses to prosper.”
Gary Crawley, Student Recruitment and Outreach Manager, Teesside University, said: “We are proud to be hosting this excellent jobs showcase for another year. It provides a vital chance for young people to explore the options open to them and ensure they have the information they need for their next step.”
Jo Thompson, of Tees Valley Learning Provider Network, said: “We are hoping this year will be the best yet.
“This event isn’t just about selling jobs, it is about selling Tees Valley as a vibrant area that provides interesting and fulfilling career choices.”
