Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen has urged local people from across Teesside, Darlington and Hartlepool to apply for a host of new jobs that will put them at the heart of government.
Following the announcement by the Chancellor in the Spring Budget that Darlington would be home to the Treasury’s second HQ, Mayor Houchen has pushed to accelerate relocation plans and speeding up bringing jobs out of Whitehall to Teesside, Darlington or Hartlepool.
Since March almost 100 jobs have been created, with 48 roles currently available in some of the government’s more important and powerful departments.
Once the Chancellor revealed that Treasury North would be set up in Darlington a number of other government departments also announced they would be moving key staff to the town, including the Department for International Trade, which is responsible for striking trade deals abroad and encouraging foreign investment in the UK, and the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy.
There are currently a variety of jobs available, ranging from Strategy and Policy Advisors in the Treasury to Strategic Analysts at D.I.T, allowing local people to play a key role in developing policy while putting local priorities at heart of government.
Mayor Houchen said “Beating off competition from Leeds, Newcastle and Manchester and securing Treasury North for Darlington was huge coup for our region and now we are seeing the benefits.
“I always said the jobs that would come would put local people and local priorities at the heart of Government, and these jobs prove this. In the weeks and months ahead, even more jobs will be available and I urge local people to apply so that our region’s voice in government is heard even louder.”
